How it works

Select what interests you
⌥ Option + shake starts the selection. Drag a rectangle around the image or text you want to explore. You can also use the ShakeLens menu.

Check and add details
The main crop appears in large size. With + you add more portions of the screen to the same question.

Ask and check the sources
Write the question and press the arrow. ShakeLens sends the crops to OpenAI and uses web search to prepare the answer, with clickable sources.

Control and privacy
You decide when to send.
First you see the crop. Then you choose whether to send it.

No continuous recording
ShakeLens does not continuously record the screen. Capture happens after you select the area.

Sent only with the arrow
Images and the question are sent to OpenAI only when you press the arrow.

Crops not saved
The app does not automatically save crops to disk.

Capture requires macOS permission. For the external service, OpenAI's terms and its data processing and retention policies apply.

Getting started
What you need.
- MacThe current build is for Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 15.2 or later.
- OpenAI keyEnter an OpenAI key in the settings. Create a key on OpenAI.
- Model and consentChoose the model and enable consent to send in the settings.
- CostsAPI requests and web search are pay-as-you-go on your OpenAI account, separate from your ChatGPT subscription.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Yes. You enter it in the app's settings, where you also find a link to the OpenAI page to create one. If you choose “Save the key in Keychain”, it is restored at the next launch; otherwise it stays only in memory and must be re-entered after you close the app.
The app uses the OpenAI APIs, billed separately from the ChatGPT subscription.
Not in the current version. Images are analyzed through OpenAI.
Yes, every question requires a web search. This can increase time and costs. If the search doesn't complete, the app shows an error.
Yes. The + adds details to the question; the first crop remains the main preview.
No. Capture happens after you select the area. Sending to the external service requires the arrow and consent in the settings.
You can ask about the same crops several times, but each question is sent independently: the previous conversation is not included.
No. Limited context and similar brands can make identification uncertain. Use the answer and the sources as an aid to explore further.
